<DIV>When seeking to understand Christian love with some precision, we inevitably come to speak about order in loving. The title of this book, Love's Sacred Order, is intended to address the problem of the need for clarification in the matter of love, above all the question of the relationship among the different kinds of love, all of which make their legitimate claim on us. A central concern of these reflections is the fact that we can do as much harm to ourselves by being too restrictive as by being too permissive in what we allow to come under the heading of Christian love. The main intent of these meditations is to explore what the hierarchy might be that God established among all our human loves, on the one hand, and between these and the gratuitously revealed love of Godthat uncreated mystery, "kept secret for long ages", to which we could not have had access if God himself had not taken the initiative to manifest it in Christ Jesus. The author approaches this subject pondering and responding to issues raised in the widely known work of C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves, of which the year 2000 marks the fortieth anniversary of publication. This volume, then, is offered as a modest contribution to our celebration of this year of the Great Jubilee of our redemption, as well as an homage to the great Christian writer. </DIV>

When a Marvel Writer Produces a Christian Comic Book

Dr. Peter Kreeft is a well-known Catholic figure who has helped many people convert to Catholicism and deepen their love and understanding of the faith. But few know that Dr. Kreeft himself is a convert to Catholicism. Raised Calvinist, Dr. Kreeft ended up becoming Catholic after attending Calvin College in Michigan, and in his new book “From Calvinist to Catholic,” Dr. Kreeft details his conversion story in his typical vivid and whimsical style.
Today, Andrew Petiprin, also a convert, is joined by Dr. Kreeft and the two discuss Dr. Kreeft’s youth, his process of conversion, and what drew him into full communion with the Catholic Church. When high school valedictorian Ian Murphy was writing his graduation address, a teacher told him that he could not mention Jesus in his speech. Through her letters, we can become acquainted with a truly holy 20th century woman. Her writings display her spiritual depth, her personal love for the Lord, and even her favorite saints. Her greatest desire in life was to be a missionary sister: a woman who spread the Good News of Jesus Christ all over the world. In this goal, she was wildly successful. She always attributed her accomplishments to God through the Scripture passage she quoted most often: I can do all things in Him who strengthens me.

Author Interview with Sally Read on her books ’Annunciation’ and ’Night’s Bright Darkness’

This week, the Church will experience a papal conclave where cardinals all over the world will deliberate and elect the next pope. As we eagerly wait for their choice, Francis Maier joins Mark Brumley to discuss what kind of pope the Church needs today. He articulately argues that he must be both a man of simplicity and of strong intellect who embodies the strengths of the last several pontiffs. In short, the next pope must model himself after the first pope—Peter.
Maier discusses several challenges that the Church and the next pope faces today, but ultimately, he offers a message of hope and encouragement in these often-troubled times. He highlights the risk of focusing too much on the politics of the Church and stresses the importance of continued personal conversion, especially through the reception of Reconciliation and frequent hours of Eucharistic adoration.

Cardinal Robert Sarah was the prefect of the congregation for divine worship from 2014 until 2021, and he has now published a new book "Song of the Lamb" which outlines his thoughts on the spiritually rich tradition of Catholic sacred music. This book was written in dialogue with Peter Carter as the two trace the history of sacred music in the Church and outline the guidelines for sacred music today.

God Is Ever New: Meditations on Life, Love, and Freedom

<DIV>Death and dying are inseparably linked with life. They are self-evident and at the same time cannot be grasped by reason alone - they are ordinary, and yet so incredible. In these meditations, the acclaimed theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar investigates this great mystery. He asks about the contradiction, inherent in all men, of wishing to achieve something "imperishable in transitoriness" and gives an answer culled from the Scriptures and from the Church Fathers. In looking at this contradiction that appears to be irreconcilable from a purely human perspective, Balthasar tries to find something in the human existence that the Christian solution can take up, for if there was nothing, one would not see how Christianity could connect to our existence at all.
