Rome and the Eastern Churches: A Study in Schism

<DIV>A Study of the History and Meaning of Personal Devotion to Jesus Christ for Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant ChristiansThe devotional life of Christians over the two millennia since Jesus' birth has been one of motion, changing and growing in response to the challenges presented to the Church, the temperaments of newly baptized nations, and controversies about how we can and should relate to God. The Layperson's Distinctive Role

<DIV>In the twelve months before his sudden death, Hans Urs von Balthasar had been writing a series of reflections on the twelve articles of the Apostles' Creed. Credo: Meditations on the Apostles' Creed

This new docu-drama on the life and miracles of St. Francis is based on the official writings of Brother Thomas Celano, a close companion and friar with St. Francis who spent many years with the saint. Brother Thomas called Francis an &ldquo;alter Christus&rdquo; who was like &ldquo;a holy mirror of the sanctity of the Lord, and an image of His perfection.&rdquo;
Beautifully filmed on location in Assisi and other Italian towns where Francis made an impact, this film tells the story of his whole life. We see the wealthy young Francis&mdash;who dreamt of being a great knight but was transformed by a mystical experience of the Lord&mdash;called by God to &ldquo;rebuild my Church.&rdquo; He was asked to leave all his possessions and unite himself with his &ldquo;Lady Poverty,&rdquo; serving the poor and outcast. Francis became a &ldquo;troubadour of the Lord&rdquo; and a &ldquo;jester of God&rdquo; who attracted great numbers of men to join his new monastic order, helping to renew the Church and spread the Gospel.
The film uses many famous works of medieval art by Giotto and other Italian artists to illustrate the life of Francis. Various historians, professors, priests, and friars offer insightful commentary about the life and times of this greatly loved saint.

Saint Francis of Assisi: His Life and Miracles

After Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI resigned from the papacy in 2013, he never stopped thinking or writing. Near the end of his life, he and editor Elio Guerriero gathered together a whole volume of new material, dealing with the themes closest to his heart.
